A day to remember – biography, photo, video and music
A Day to Remember is a post-hardcore band from Ocala, Florida, formed in 2003. Their music generally consists of growled verses, clean pop-punk style choruses and breakdowns.
Early years (2003-2006)
After all playing in different bands in the Ocala music scene, singer Jeremy McKinnon, guitarists Neil Westfall and Tom Denney, bassist Joshua Woodard, and drummer Bobby Scruggs came together in 2003. Soon after, the band embarked on a “DIY” tour, playing well over 200 shows, making a name for themselves. They were signed to Indianola Records, from which they recorded their first full length, titled And Their Name Was Treason in May 2005. The album sold 8,000 copies on word of mouth alone, but the band felt that bigger and better things were to come. “A friend of mine said he had the AIM screenname of someone at Victory Records,” Woodard said. “I didn’t believe him, but I still started communicating with the guy. We IM’ed back and forth for about six months, and it happened that we were playing with the band On The Last Day in a town outside of Chicago—and this guy was going to be there filming it. It was our first time we ever played in Illinois, yet the 50-60 kids there were singing along to our tunes like they’d been fans all their lives.

Feist – biography,photo,video and music
Leslie Feist (born February 13, 1976 in Amherst, Nova Scotia) is a canadian singer. She performs as a solo artist under the name Feist and also as a member of Broken Social Scene.
Raised in Regina and Calgary, Feist got her start in music as the lead vocalist for a punk band called Placebo (not the more famous British band Placebo), who won a local Battle of the Bands competition and were awarded the opening slot at a Ramones concert. After five years of touring, Feist was forced to take time off from music to recover from voice damage. She moved from Calgary to Toronto in 1998 and took up guitar; by 1999, she was the guitarist for By Divine Right. She also released her debut solo album, Monarch (Lay Your Jewelled Head Down), that year. The album was financed by a grant from the Canadian government.
In 2000, Feist moved in as a roommate with Peaches and Gonzales, and appeared as a guest vocalist on The Teaches of Peaches and Presidential Suite. She then joined the recording sessions for Broken Social Scene’s albums Feel Good Lost and You Forgot It in People.
Feist then moved to Paris, and while in Europe, she collaborated with Norwegian duo Kings of Convenience as a guest vocalist on their album Riot on an Empty Street. Feist recorded her second solo album, Let It Die, in Paris in 2002 and 2003. That album, a combination of jazz and bossa nova was hailed as one of the best Canadian pop albums of 2004 and got her two Juno Awards (The Canadian equivalent of the Grammys). This album also helped her to gain a significant international audience.

The fratellis – biography, photo, video and music
The Fratellis are an alternative rock band from Glasgow, Scotland who took their name from the villains in the film “The Goonies” (although, by coincidence, Barry’s mother’s maiden name is in fact Fratelli). The band consists of lead vocalist and guitarist Jon Fratelli (real name John Lawler), bass guitarist Barry Fratelli (real name Barry Wallace), and drummer, backing vocalist, occasional guitarist and banjo player Mince Fratelli (real name Gordon McRory). They are currently touring with a pianist / rhythm guitarist, Will Foster.
History
2005-2006: Beginnings and The Fratellis EP
They played their first show on March 4, 2005 in the O’Henry’s bar in Glasgow across the road from the famous Horseshoe bar, and received their first radio play in 2005 on central Scotland’s Beat 106 (later XFM Scotland, now Galaxy Scotland) Beatscene show hosted by Jim Gellatly. They were signed by Fallout Records.
The Fratellis EP was released April 3, 2006, featuring the tracks “Creepin’ Up The Backstairs”, “Stacie Anne” and “The Gutterati?”. The NME ran a two page feature on The Fratellis in the August 10, 2006 issue, proclaiming them “the best new band in Britain”. “Creepin’ Up The Backstairs” was never a single released by the band, even though a video was made for it. It was not eligible for the charts. The first single released by the band was “Henrietta”, which was released on June 12 2006 and charted at number 19 on the UK Charts.

International Music Increasing in Popularity in the U.s
International or world music has never been one of the most popular genres for U.S. audiences, perhaps due to the adherence of American youth culture to trendsetting musical styles. In recent years, however, international music has become something of a cult phenomenon, even among smaller segments of the nation’s youth.
Modern international music is typified by the convergence of traditional folk from various corners of the globe and modern rhythmic accompaniment. Often, multiple styles are meshed to form an intricate weave of patterns and melodies that result in a worldly flavor reminiscent of the early indigenous music heard in Sub Saharan Africa but with 21st century appeal. Many styles are represented by international music artists, some of which lean more toward the primal and folk genres while others are a mixture of African, Cuban, Middle Eastern, Australian, South American and Asian traditional music.
Several prominent recording artist of the last few decades have delved into international themes, which has had a positive, though small, effect on the genre as a whole. Paul Simon’s multi-platinum “Graceland” album was one of the first examples of a popular artist adding world music sensibilities to traditional songwriting structures. Peter Gabriel has played no small part in the propagation of international music, and has included some tracks that could be classified as such on almost all of his releases as a solo artist. Gabriel is also the creator of WOMAD, the World of Music, Arts and Dance movement.
